North-East Regional Review meeting on RGM was held on 22nd November, 2018 at AASC

The Regional Review Meeting of North East Region to review the implementation progress of Rashtriya Gokul Mission(RGM) in 8 states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura was held at Guwahati, Assam on 22nd November , 2018 under chairmanship of Joint Secretary, DADH to Govt of India.

At the outset of the meeting, Shri M.Singh,IAS,  Joint Secretary to Govt of India informed the house about the new initiatives and policy of Govt of India towards enhancing the farmers income through implementation of schemes like Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan(KKA) under Rashtrita Gokul Mission. Discussing the positive impact of KKA Phase – I in other parts of India Joint Secretary expressed concern about underperformance of the NE states and urged all the states to give priority to implement the schemes like Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA) for enhancing farmer’s income through Cattle upgradation programme.

Commenting on the implementation of the RGM the Joint Secretary opined that the NE states are still far behind the states like Punjub, Hariyana, Andhra Pradesh, which may be due to its Agro-climatic and socio-economic  condition of this region. So ,out of the approved activity components under RGM, NE states should concentrate mainly on cattle upgradation through AI activities, establishment of Gokul gram, Animal registration with UID under Pashu Sanjivni. priority should be given for maximum coverage of breedable population with semen of improved breed, training of the AI workers(both MAITRI and departmental inseminators), strengthening of AI network,  farmers motivation and AI in selected Aspirational districts under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan.

After the opening remark Dr. B. Sunani, Deputy Commissioner, Govt of India, DADF (Cattle Div) delivered the presentation on components of RGM and status of Implementation of RGM in the country and NE region. Later all the 8 states of NER were reviewed on one to one basis in terms of physical and financial achievements under RGM.

Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to Govt of Assam, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary deptt  was also present in the meeting.
